Whistling Past the Graveyard

This is the first book I've read by Susan Crandall and it won't be the last.  I was very happy I received this as a free preview from NetGalley.
Starla was a feisty young southern girl that had a lot of learning and a lot of growing up to do.  I found myself rooting for her throughout her journey.  I fought with her when she was being attacked and I cried with her when she realized the truth about her momma.
It was a well written, easy to fall in love with book and I've recommended it to many friends and family members already.  The stark reality of segregation grabbed a hold of little Starla and she was forever changed.
